Moving while keeping the same ~/ before moving homes

I think I woke up early enough and have enough motivation to “rebuild” my desktop. So that would be moving away from NixOS and back to Gentoo.

This website really made an impact on me. I’ve been just thinking about this “move” since this came across my timeline. I wish I could credit the user that either boosted the post or OP.

The build:

• Gentoo and the Linux distribution
• OpenRC as the init system
• mksh as the shell
• doas over sudo
• quickshell
• MAYBE riverwm (I’m really used to and partial to Qtile and Hyprland)
• chezmoi looks very interesting!
• Alacritty as my terminal (I really like ghostty, but I’m wanting to mitigate AI generated code when I can)

AI can have it’s place as a tool or an assistant… But it being forced upon us in every facet is tiring and disgusting at this point. The environmental impact is just too alarming to ignore. Like, fully open OS models ran locally is great, IMO. But that’s not what is happening. We are losing our agency

I will be moving from the West Coast of the USA to the East Coast. It’s going to be the end of June/the first of July. I genuinely hate that I have to make this move at this time of my life. I wish it could’ve been sooner or maybe way later. I am in between jobs and haven’t collected a paycheck in almost a year. It’s just incredibly frustrating. I’d much rather make this move when the economy is slightly more forgiving. But alas you can’t choose your circumstances. You can adapt and plan to try and take advantage of your circumstances or better them.
